Clash of the playstyles: Fixing it with CODE

Liberty Station 13's playerbase has changed from what it used to be. This isn't a bad thing, i like admining for a server that houses many different playstyles and i appreciate the robust action players as much as the roleplayers. No one is necessarily bad. If i run up and stun you, strip your pockets and run off. you might think that i was trying to grief when in reality some clown might of said "____ has a esword in his pocket" and i was just checking and turns out the clown is a jerk!

This game gets chaotic and often stressful for the receiving end of the chaos. (mostly this is sec) and roles such as security are unfun to play with the constant chaos of syndicate threat and crew threat. Believe me i do not play sec as much as i want to, i would love to play it and control the chaos a bit but it can really be a stressful play with no reward. I'd put some guy in brig for his very destructive attitude and because someone was put in the brig everyone has to come get him out because its "unfair"/something to do/security's reputation.

What i am looking for is a discussion not about admin rules or policy, not looking for if we should tighten the rules on such and such. I am looking purely for solutions we could put in-game via code. We have a very dedicated team of coders (read: anyone who has contributed to the code so far) and a easy to learn codebase. What can we do to balance it out and make the game fun for ALL PLAYSTYLES

    Possible ideas to roll around
-Civilian Taser (This has been something brought up in the past that i was not around for, any of you oldies mind chiming in about this)
-Nerf strip times (Our code specifically has different strip times depending on the area stripped. perhaps make it a little longer to take off someones jumpsuit)
-The Telebaton (an extendable baton for heads of staff to replace there flash, it doesnt stun long enough to strip or cuff but it does stun enough to run away from danger, does not use charge)
-Space law changes (this probably should be a diffrent thread in itself, just let me know if you guys collectively want a change to space law)

If you can think of any other changes that might help let me know below. If you don't like any of the ideas above try providing your own idea

A system where if you enjoy another player you can +1 like one person per round. These are karma tokens. You can then use the tokens to buy tradable hats, or keys to open chests to get more hats.

Will others be able to see how much karma someone has?
    Anything else besides hats?
Can this be abused to play favorites and start cliques? "Oh we have more karma then you, you must be a greytider"

Automated prisoner processing for the brig. Shove the prisoner into a pod, handcuffs are removed, all items are stripped and placed in an evidence locker/prisoners belongings locker. Prisoner is spat out into the cell in prison uniform, and is given their stuff back automatically upon their time being up. The machine only activates when a time is given for their punishment. Is that possible, even remotely? It would speed up prisoner processing, which would give less time for griffons to mess things up.

Please no, this would only encourage graytiding and chaos.

It takes a long time to remove jumpsuits already, enough that you must have your target restrained to do so. Why making it even longer?

I'm all for this. Can be copied from Bay. It might benefit from some changes, as in giving stamina damage instead of infinite_stun+brute to make it less powerful.

Not entirely sure this is a idea that might help. automating the brig processing sorta takes more freedom from officers and just sounds confusing.

Well you did add space law datums recently. It could work, I just don't know if its worth it.

I did but the freedom to add/subtract time remained.

He isn't saying remove that if I'm reading it right, just you enter all the info at an automated processing station, and then it sucks up the prisoner and handles the rest.

Perhaps, could work. Any downsides you see?

From the time we had civilian tasers I learned one thing.."don't do that again." But I like the extendable baton idea for heads
  13. Cactus, are you snorting blocks? This would obviously only exacerbate the issue that you created this thread supposedly to address.
  14. Much of the issue that has caused this thread to be created has arisen from metabuddy cliches that already back each other IC regardless of whether they are in the right. This token system would just make for more of a circlejerk. Cactus talked about sec being unrewarding to play; well, I guarantee it would be the grey tiders receiving tokens from each other and security would be a pretty low yield job for them. Also one of the most common complaints people have about SS13 severs is metafriendship boys' club stuff that makes casual players feel alienated and unwanted.

Not a fan of this idea.
  15. This makes the sripping/searching procedure for security longer and I dont think it would really help.

I like this idea, however what flat said should be taken into account but I feel we could find ways around that issue, that and I really don't think it would happen that often.

Me and zombie were both jesting earlier (according to what he said in admin chat) but karma systems are inherently flawed. We will inevitably get sets of metabuddies constantly +1ing eachother.

Karma systems that rely on players giving eachother Karma are definitely flawed due to how ridiculously easy they are to abuse. Though I have liked the idea in the past of a system where admins can grant similar such 'tokens' to players for performing interesting feats in game. Limited to admins to prevent abuse, and the rewards limited to completely harmless, flavor things. Could be rewarded for extraordinary acts as both antag and non-antag, not just 'you played in a style that I like!!'. Just an idea though.

Civilian taser is an awful idea, however. Giving a more widely available stun weapon to everyone would just piss more people off. Stripping times are already pretty damn slow, as well.

A space law change could be okay, but it's such a finnicky thing to get people to agree on. And there tends to be people who scream for things that will land people in the brig for half an hour at a time, which I'm personally strongly against. Wasn't there already an attempt to change space law anyways?

    Here's my suggestions.

    More clothing/costumes.

    More weapons.

Another gamemode. Perhaps take a look at /vg/'s Necromancer, or maybe Vampire or something.

    More maint items/secrets.

A new engine that doesn't cause a bunch of issues. I'd like to see the station eating singularity go away forever plz. I'm tired of the lag it brings with it when it's released.

Kitchen/Botany re-do. (Growing plants is a little too easy as is stands also we could use some more seeds and being a chef is just boring as well as having little antagonist potential as far as foods.)

More food recipes for the chef.

Add Xenoarcheology. I've brought it up before only to get responses like "it's too technical for our playerbase" personally I think we could create our own Xenoarcheology to better suit our players. But really though, I think some new jobs in general would be nice.

Expand on space exploration, make exploring space fun again or give those who want to explore space more options, perhaps even it's job.

A cash system that most people can agree on as well as adding a casino or some place to gamble your life away if cash is given more purpose.

Add in pod building as well as an area for mechanics to build them, perhaps even a new job for it. (I haven't messed with it before but I've watched someone build one before and it looked really interesting.)

Add merchants in space that you can buy certain items from (unique weapons/clothing/gadgets) if a money system is implemented.

    More animals and hostile mobs.
  19. I like dis idea do it do it do it
  20. Yeah, but then you have to deal with players complaining about favoritism and ahelping when they do something cool and going "DID YOU SEE THAT?!?!?! WILL I GET A TOKEN?!?!?!"
